What’s around the corner

July 13, 2016

Automotive technology is getting ever more sophisticated, nowhere more so than in engine efficiency. Hybrids and all-electric vehicles are on the cusp of a great leap forward that could have a huge impact on the costs for company fleets.

Volkswagen Group is already at the forefront of this new wave in automotive technology and is looking to take the lead with its new strategy in engine efficiency, recently announced by Managing Director Matthias Müller.

‘TOGETHER – Strategy 2025’ is aimed at making the manufacturer the world’s leading provider of sustainable vehicles. It’s a fundamental shift in the Group’s focus.

Müller sees a bright future for customers of Volkswagen Group and its brands. “Together, we will enrich our customers’ lives and make them easier with our vehicles and services,” he said. “We will reduce the environmental burden with eco-friendly drivetrain technologies.”

The Group plans to launch more than 30 purely battery-powered electric vehicles over the next 10 years. Volkswagen Group believes electric vehicles will account for almost a quarter of all passenger car sales by 2025, with 2-3 million electric cars sold over that period. Developing new battery technology is crucial, so the Group will invest to become one of the leaders in this technology.

These new vehicles will strengthen the Group’s offering in fuel-efficient vehicles, which already includes models such as the Audi A3 e-tron and Volkswagen’s e-up! Golf GTE and Passat GTE. More such vehicles are expected to join the other brands’ line-ups in the future.
